The gradual but imminent shift to software-defined vehicles (SDVs) presents several opportunities and challenges for the automotive aftermarket. As SDVs begin to penetrate vehicles in use, service providers will have to begin the transition to stay ahead of the curve.
Vehicles are already becoming increasingly intelligent and connected, driving change across the automotive ecosystem. Consumers have seen how easily their mobile and digital devices are upgraded and faults are fixed with over-the-air (OTA) software and are demanding smartphone-like in-vehicle experiences, setting the stage for SDVs.
