Study reveals drivers more distracted with partial automation systems

Research by IIHS and MIT's AgeLab shows increased multitasking in drivers using systems such as Tesla's Autopilot and Volvo's Pilot Assist

In a study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's AgeLab, it was found that drivers are more likely to engage in multitasking behaviors such as checking their phones or eating while using partial automation systems in vehicles, according to a press release dated Sept. 20.
