California expands vehicle component safety inspection program
The program aims to address safety concerns associated with salvage vehicles, which were previously only subjected to brake and lamp inspection and a smog check.
California has launched its Vehicle Safety Systems Inspections Program as a result of AB 471, signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2021, which mandated the Bureau of Automotive Repair to establish and commence the inspection program by Jan. 1 of the current year, according to a release by CAWA, a US-based association representing the automotive parts industry.
