Implications of EU’s 2035 ban on ICE light vehicles on VIO
We look at how the European Union’s ban on sales of polluting cars from 2035 will affect the vehicle fleet and how the aftermarket can adapt to meet the needs of vehicle owners.
In March 2023, the European Council (EC) formally signed off on one of the most ambitious aspects of its Green Deal: a legislation that effectively bans the sales of new petrol and diesel cars in the EU from 2035. The EU law will require 55% CO2 emission reductions for new cars and 50% for new vans from 2030 to 2034 compared with 2021 levels and a 100% CO2 emission reduction for both new cars and vans from 2035.
