"Grey area" over emissions limits causes confusion for garages and threatens further prosecutions

A recent court case involving AET Motorsport has highlighted a legal grey area surrounding car modifications that could put drivers and businesses at risk of prosecution, according to a news report by Autocar UK dated Feb. 9. The court found the company guilty of illegally altering a car's catalytic converter and engine control unit to increase noise levels, making it illegal to drive on public roads. The magistrates emphasized that business owners must be aware of the law and warned that similar cases will be brought forward.
