Announcement comes after the show, originally scheduled from 20 to 23 December 2022, was halted as prevention measures related to the pandemic gathered pace across the country.

The Automechanika Shanghai 2023 will be held from 15–18 February at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in mainland China, according to a press release dated 29 December by the trade event organizers Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai). In November, the organizers had announced that they are putting the show, originally scheduled from 20 to 23 December 2022, on pause “while prevention measures related to the pandemic consolidate across the country”.

The organizers now believe the conditions for a large-scale industry gathering are developing as an outcome of changes to public health measures from the Chinese government and the show has been rescheduled in support of the call for in-person business events.

Commenting on the announcement, Fiona Chiew, deputy general manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said, “As the automotive industry is a core part of China’s economy and modernization, we understand the importance of returning Automechanika Shanghai to the trade fair calendar for long-awaited marketing, trade, education and business exchanges. The engagement on AMS Live over the past few weeks reflects these growing needs in the market, which we aim to carry through to the physical show in February.”

Significance: Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) observed that the Chinese government has recently implemented several policies to encourage market growth and technological upgrade in the automotive industry. This includes ongoing incentives and tax breaks on sales aim to boost demand, particularly in the new energy vehicle sector. “Forecasts for the year ahead indicate 23.8 and 3.8 million passenger and commercial vehicles sales, respectively, and a 35 percent year-on-year increase in new energy vehicle orders,” according to the release.

Domestic and overseas participants at the show can expect to see topics related to the rise of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, advanced technologies, green repair, developments in the logistics industry, and more addressed at the aftermarket trade show. Automechanika Shanghai will be organized by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the China National Machinery Industry International Co Ltd (Sinomachint).
